Liberal
Recreation Center
This facility
is a gathering place for the youth and their families of the Liberal
community. After school activities include video games, pool,
air hockey, table tennis, game cube, play station 2 and a variety
of board games. The Recreation Center is a great place to come
and visit after work with your family. Occasionally, the Center
serves as a site for special activities and events. It also serves
as the headquarters for the Recreation Department employees.
Mary Frame Community
Building

The Mary Frame Community Building is located in
Mary Frame Park on the corner of Hickory and New York Street.
The building rents for $50 per day with a $50 deposit for the Mary
Frame key. The building is available for rent to non profit activities.
Rental dates and contracts are made at the Recreation Office in
Blue Bonnet Park. Rental fees are non-refundable, however for
cancellations we will be glad to reschedule your event at another
time within the calendar year of the reservation. No phone reservations
will be taken. Fire code dictates this building to have a maximum
capacity of 86 people.
Picnic Facilities

Reservations for picnic shelters may be made on
a first come first serve basis at the Recreation Center during
regular business hours. If your family, business, or organization
is planning an outing in one of the parks, be sure to have your
a picnic shelter reserved. The fee to reserve an area is
$15.00 per reservation and must be made in person at the Recreation
Department.For more information on reserving a picnic shelter, please call Christi at 620-626-0133.
Tennis Courts
The City of Liberal provides residents a choice
of six (5) lighted courts at various locations within the community.
Tennis provides good exercise and conditioning for all ages. We
encourage you take advantage of the courts this fall and winter
during times when the weather permits.
Iron Mike's Batting
Cages
Plan on visiting IRON MIKE'S batting cages to
help you regain that famous swing. IRON MIKE'S will remain open
in the Fall during Kids Inc. activities. We will reopen the first
weekend of May for the spring and summer season. What a great
way to swing into spring!
Horseshoe Pits
Horseshoe is a game of accuracy which can be played
as an individual or with a partner. A 12 pit lighted tournament
court, located in North Blue Bonnet, is available for sport as
well as competitive play. There is no fee or reservations needed
to try your hand at shoes. For more information on tournaments
or play call Jody at 624-0655 after 5 pm.
Arkalon Park
Visit Arkalon Park during your next outing. Gates
are open for admission from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
A Kansas fishing
license is also required. Fishing permits are issued from the
Camp Host's office during regular business hours. A Camp Host
is on duty from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and from 4 to 8 p.m. everyday.
For more information contact 626-0531. Arkalon Park will be closed
for the season from last week of October until first week of April.
Skate Park
A newly constructed skate park is available for
use during daylight hours at Mary Frame park, 500 block of south
New York Street. The park has a quarter pipe, start box, and many
rails for skaters to use. a pyramid is soon to be constructed
with donations from the community. Skateboards, in-line skates,
and special bikes are allowed in the park. NO glass containers
allowed. NO other items such ads benches, tables, wood materials
or other objects used as ramps/jumps are allowed in this facility.
The skate Park has SAFETY SUGGESTIONS which include: know your
abilities and skate at your own risk; users are encouraged to
ware helmets, knee pads, elbow pads etc.; children should have
parental supervision; NO skating against traffic on ramps or pipes;
do not proceed down a ramp until clear of other skaters; certain
weather conditions such as snow, ice, or wet surfaces may affect
ramps and surface conditions.
WARNING-This facility is unsupervised. Use at your own risk. Use
may result in serious injury. Look for skate instruction from
more experienced skaters on Saturday Mornings.

Liberal Recycling
Program
In order to
help contribute to a better environment, the City of Liberal is
involved in a recycling program. Containers are located in the
parking lots of the old Homeland store just west of the Wendy's,
the parking lot north of Burger King, Westlake Ace Hardware, and Mercado Familiar.
These are clearly marked to assist you in depositing your items.
Accepted at these locations, on a daily basis, are the three primary
colors of glass bottles, milk cartons, two liter pop bottler and
aluminum beverage cans. Newspapers are accepted at Homeland parking
lot between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Residents
are reminded that newspaper must be either placed in paper grocery
sacks or bound with twine. This is a program the whole community
can contribute to so let's all do our part.
